Partnerships with Literary Agents

Birds & Muses is thrilled to announce our partnership with an exceptional (and growing) group of highly respected literary agents who have agreed to read the finished manuscripts of our mentored, edited, and Bookgardan writers. Kate will be working directly with our partnering agents to keep them up to date on book projects by our writers that are nearing completion, and to directly submit manuscripts based on each agent’s interests.

Kate is honored that her own “fairy godmother” agent, Ellen Levine at Trident Media Group, was the first Literary Agent to partner with Birds & Muses. Ellen represents many illustrious authors whose books have become international bestsellers and been made into major feature films, such as Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient, Marilynne Robinson’s Housekeeping, Daniel Woodrell’s Winter’s Bone, Russell Banks’ Affliction, Louis Sachar’s Holes, and coming up, Marlon James’ Black Leopard, Red Wolf. Her clients have won Pulitzer prizes, National Book Awards, National Book Critics Circle Awards, PEN Faulkner and Hemingway Prizes, Booker Prizes, Giller prizes, Governor General Awards, the Newbery Award, and an Oprah Book Club 2.0 selection. Ellen founded the Ellen Levine Literary Agency in the 1980s prior to merging with Trident in 2002. Ellen treasures working with her brilliant authors of literary fiction and also loves to handle well-written popular commercial fiction. In addition, she represents a wide variety of nonfiction, with particular interest in memoir, narrative nonfiction, popular culture, history, politics, women’s issues, biography, science, essayistic work, and the odd quirky book. Ellen enjoys guiding her established authors’ careers, and at the same time loves discovering fresh talent and new voices.
