Bookgardan Application Form


  • $7800 per person for the year

  • Optional pre-Bookgardan manuscript reading fee: $5/page

    (Note: a full manuscript reading & assessment at the end of the year’s program is included in the Tuition)


Enrollment in Bookgardan includes:

  • Two 7 night/6 day residencies at Craigardan with lodging in a private room/shared bath; all but one meal (one dinner out, no host); daily group yoga instruction; transportation to/from local train station or airport

  • 1 year of Mentorship with Kate, including 11, 30-page manuscript submissions & individual conferences; monthly-plus online curriculum including at least 11 Craft Tutorials, 11 Guest Writer Interviews, 11 Group Seminars; final full manuscript reading and evaluation prior to the ending residency in October 2020

  • All residency & program fees for both Craigardan residencies

  • 80+ hours of Group Curriculum and Instruction

  • 70-80+ hours of Kate’s focused attention on you and your work, including 50+ hours in One-on-One Conferences

  • Ongoing private community space and archive hosted at Wet Ink in perpetuity

Please note: Bookgardan Tuition does not include airfare or other long-distance travel costs to the two residencies, which must be arranged and paid separately by the participant. For those participants with an in-progress manuscript when the program starts, an optional pre-program manuscript reading/consultation is available for an additional fee of $5/page. 

If your application is approved, a $500 non-refundable deposit, minus the $50 application fee, will be due with your registration. The remaining balance may be split into two payments, one due by August 1, 2019 and the second by February 1, 2020.


Please fill out the form below and submit. After submitting your Application Form, please send a short 1–2-page description of your book project; and a writing sample of 10–12 pages to with the subject line: (Your Name) Bookgardan Application and pay a $50 application fee through the "Pay Invoice" tab. (Application fees will be returned to applicants not accepted; applicants who are accepted and enroll will be credited $50 to their deposit.). Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, first come, first served. Accepted applicants must submit a nonrefundable $500 deposit (minus the $50 application fee) to hold their spot. The remaining balance will be due in two installments, one due by August 1, 2019 and the second by February 1, 2020.  

NOTE: We require a $50 application fee to ensure that applications are submitted with a serious intention to enroll, equal to the time and consideration we give to each application.  We take our applicants and their works seriously and regret turning away talented writers for lack of space; the application fee is to deter applicants who are less than sincerely interested in attending the program.  

Writing Sample Format: MS Word or PDF format; double-spaced; 12-pt standard font (such as Times New Roman) and 1" page margins. Please include your name and the genre of the writing sample on the first page.
